Wind farm Bouwdokken
E-Connection arranges the necessary permits for a wind farm on the Bouwdokken at the Oosterschelde flood barrier. We drafted the Environmental Impact Assessment report and supplied major building blocks for the Spatial Plan.
The Bouwdokken are part of the former island of Neeltje Jans, nowadays part of the Oosterschelde flood barrier (municipality Veere). In the past the Bouwdokken were used to build the pylons for the flood barrier. The wind turbines will be placed on the dikes surrounding the former docks. The wind farm comprises nine wind turbines with a nominal capacity of 6 MW each. The height of the towers of the wind turbines is approx. 117 meter and the rotor diameter is 126 meter. The wind farm is an initiative of Windpark OSK BV. Wind farm Bouwdokken borders on the Natura 2000 protection area Oosterschelde and is close to the Natura 2000 protection area Voordelta.
The expected average energy output of wind farm Bouwdokken is approx. 187.000.000 kWh per year. That is sufficient clean electricity to supply more than 54.000 Dutch households. The wind farm reduces the emission of carbon dioxide (CO2), one of the greenhouse gases, with more than 110.000 tonnes per year.
Environmental Impact Assessment
In the Environmental Impact Assessment report (EIA report) the expected impact on the environment is described. Among others the effects on bird wildlife and sea mammals in and around the Oosterschelde and Voordelta estuary and the visual impact. But also the noise emission and the possible effects on the safety of people working or passing through the vicinity of the wind farm. In addition to the preferred configuration of the wind turbines two alternative configurations are described in the EIA report. A wind farm comprising nine wind turbines of 3,6 MW each and a wind farm of four 6 MW wind turbines. The power produced by the wind farm had to be transported via the grid to the consumers. The EIA report describes several options for the connection of the wind farm to the national grid.
Because the current Spatial Plan makes no allowance for this wind farm a renewal of the Spatial Plan is pending. The EIA report will be published together with the pre draft of the new Spatial Plan.
Once the draft Spatial Plan has been conformed by the Council of Veere the applications for all necessary permits can be submitted. Only after all permits have been granted construction of the wind farm can commence. It is therefore expected that the earliest date to start operation of the wind farm will be 2014.
